C T Online Desk: Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that through the launch of the ongoing railway projects, the passengers will get the same opportunities in the country’s communication sector as the railways in the developed world in the next few years.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the 42nd annual sports competition of Bangladesh Railway at the railway polo ground in the city on Wednesday (January 18) morning.
The railway minister said that the reputation of Bangladesh Railways in the country’s sports field is long-standing. Railway workers have been trying to build a healthy nation by performing sports skills along with passenger service for a long time.
Due to the coronavirus, this competition was not organized for two consecutive years. He requested the railway authorities to increase the participation of railways in the sports field by bringing back the lost tradition of this competition from next time.
The Railway Minister said in his speech that Bangladesh Railway has increased the quality of service more than any time in the past. Even a decade and a half ago there was an attempt to destroy the railways by curtailing the railway operations. The current government after coming to power has made railways one of the main means of communication for the masses by increasing investment in railways.
By the end of this year, it will be possible to travel directly from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar by inaugurating the railway construction project up to Dohazari-Gundum.
The Director General of Bangladesh Railway and Chief Sponsor of Bangladesh Railway Sports Control Board spoke at the event. Kamrul Ahsan, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway Eastern Region and President of Bangladesh Railway Sports Control Board. Jahangir Hossain, Chief Engineer of Eastern Region and General Secretary of Bangladesh Railway Sports Control Board Abu Zafar Mia.
A total of 8 teams of athletes will participate in different events in this two-day sports competition. The parties are, Lalmonir Hat Dal (yellow colour), Headquarters/West Dal (white colour), Pahartali Dal (red colour), Chittagong Dal (deep green), Pakshi Dal (pink colour), Syedpur Dal (light blue colour), HQ/East (crimson red color) and Dhaka team (purple color).
