C T Online Desk: The first phase of the three-day Bishwa Ijtema ended on the banks of the Turag in Tongi on Sunday through the Akheri Munajat or concluding prayers.
This final prayer lasting 27 minutes began from 9:58am to 10:25am and was led by Maulana Zubair Hassan, member and top leader of Tabligh Jamaat.
Before this, Hedayati sermon was given by Maulana Abdur Rahman of India.
Engineer Mahfuz, a member of the organizing committee of Bishwa Ijtema, said that to participate in the last prayer, people flocked to the bank of Turag river in Tongi from Saturday night. Around 9am on Sunday, the area around Ijtema ground filled with people. Ignoring the cold, dust and sand, the Muslims rushed to the ground on foot, leaving buses, trucks, microbuses, cars, taxis and other vehicles at a distance of 5-6km.
The second phase of the Ijtema will begin at the same venue on Friday.
