C T Online Desk: The government has fixed weekly holidays on different days in industrial areas to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Due to this, industrial establishments are closed in some industrial area of Chittagong 7 days a week since August 11. In this, about 30 million cubic feet of gas is ‘saved’ daily by Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL).
Now the company has planned to supply the gas saved in the industrial sector to the power sector. KGDCL officials say that although the demand is high, 300 million cubic feet of gas is now available in Chittagong from the national grid. Out of this, 80-90 million cubic feet of gas is being given to more than 1,000 industrial customers. 50-60 million cubic feet of gas is now being supplied to industrial customers due to weekends on different days in industrial areas. As a result, at least 30 million cubic feet of gas is being saved per day from this sector.
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited GM (Marketing) Engineer Aminur Rahman said, we have not stopped gas in the industrial area. But as every industrial area is closed every day to save electricity, gas is not being used naturally in those industrial areas. In this way, 30-40 million cubic feet of gas per day is used less in the industrial sector. Now an initiative has been taken to supply these industrial gases to the power sector..
