C T Online Desk: Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) members, has submitted a memorandum to the Law Minister demanding legal action against the lawyers involved in the attack on Jamuna TV reporter Al Amin Sikder and cameraperson Asaduzzaman Limon and cancellation of the Bar Council certificates of the attackers..
The leaders of the organization gave this memorandum through Chittagong District Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman on yesterday afternoon.
At that time, journalist leaders said that journalists have to regularly travel to the court building area to fulfill their professional duties and collect news . But on August 17, while performing their professional duties, Jamuna TV reporter Al Amin Sikder and cameraperson Syed Asaduzzaman Limon were attacked by some unruly lawyers in the court building area. Such heinous behavior is completely unexpected and uncalled for. Through this incident, they smeared the legal profession. Chittagong journalist society is extremely angry with their behavior. By reviewing the photos and video footage of the incident, the lawyers involved in the attack can be easily identified. To protect the dignity of the judiciary and the legal profession and to ensure the safety of journalists in the performance of their professional duties, there is a need for exemplary punishment of the errant lawyers involved in the incident.
In the memorandum, two lawyers accused of criminal offenses involved in the incident were identified and demanded the cancellation of their Bar Council charters. At the same time, they are requested to take appropriate criminal action against them for violating the law by being defenders of the law.
