C T Online Desk:  Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) held a rally and protest march against the attack on two journalists in the court premises.The rally was organized in front of the Chittagong Press Club on Thursday (August 18) at noon.Journalist leaders gave a 3-day ultimatum to arrest the lawyers who tortured journalists and cancel the Bar Council certificate. Otherwise, they warned to continue the agitation through a series of programs with journalists from all over the country. After the rally, the protest procession went around the various roads of the city.In the gathering, Cuj president Mohammad Ali said that journalists have worked shoulder to shoulder with lawyers in any progressive movement-struggle in Chittagong. Attacking journalists in the guise of lawyers in the court premises is undesirable in this long-standing cordial relationship. We believe that this attack on journalists in the identity of lawyers was fueled by some anti-national interest. Because two journalists were attacked while reporting on the verdict of the militant attack. The Bar Association should identify the culprits and take exemplary punishment including cancellation of their membership. If the attackers’ lawyer’s license is not canceled within three days, the journalist society will start a strict movement through a series of programs.Chittagong Press Club president Ali Abbas said in the rally that the continuous attack on media workers across the country is sad. Due to the culture of impunity, such attacks on journalists are happening again and again. Law enforcement agencies must ensure that the guilty do not get away.Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid said that two journalists were attacked on the pretext of violence. It is mysterious how this illegal attack on the court in the identity of a lawyer. A few dissolute lawyers cannot represent 10,000 lawyers working in Chittagong courts. The Bar Association must identify the culprits.
