C T Online Desk: A passenger from Dubai was detained with 566 grams of gold at Shah Amanat International Airport. The passenger named Rafiqul Islam was arrested.
According to airport sources, the passenger arrived on the BG 148 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai in the morning. He then declared to the customs officials that he had brought 2 gold bars and paid Tk 40,000 in customs duty.
But NSI and customs intelligence officers challenged his movements while crossing the customs hall as they looked suspicious. When the passenger was walked through the archway at one stage, the presence of metal objects on the body could be noticed. At that time he admitted having two gold bars in his anus. Later went to the washroom and took it out.
Four gold bars weighing 466 grams, 100 grams of 24 carat gold ornaments, 15 cartons of cigarettes, cosmetics, chocolates, food items were recovered from him. The market value of these is about 35 lakh 3 thousand taka.Preparations are underway to file a case against the detained passenger, a customs official said.
