Bangladesh Press Council Training Workshop for Journalists

C T Online Desk: Journalists  Working in Rangamati Creating a Database for Journalists across the Country. A database is being created for journalists across the country, said Justice Mohammad Nizamul Haque Nasim., chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council.. He said its activities have already started. Its main goal is to keep real journalists safe from fake and  yellow -journalism. In the name of journalism, many people are getting involved in various misdeeds. There are many questions in the minds of the people about them. People also call them in bad  language.’. Therefore, he requested to play the role of a real journalist by presenting accurate and truthful information without being fatal. He was speaking as the chief guest while addressing a day-long training workshop for journalists of print and electronic media working in Rangamati on Press Council Law and Information Technology Law organized by Press Council at the conference room of Rangamati Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Saturday (June 4) morning. Rangamati Additional District Magistrate Md. Al Mamun Miah presided over the training workshop and Bangladesh Press Council Secretary Md. ShahAlam was present.Among others,  Rangamati Additional

 

Superintendent of Police Md. Jahedul Islam, former President of Rangamati Press club and Editor of Dainik Giridarpan AKM Maksud,  Press Club President Sakhawat Hossain Rubel, General Secretary Anwar Al Haq, President of Reporters Unity Sushil Prasad Chakma, President of Journalists Forum Nandan Debnath  etc were present on the ocasion. . The judge added that journalists are supplementary to the government. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also  respected journalists. That is why the Press Council enacted the law in 1974 to protect journalists. The Press Council is working to implement that goal. And if journalists work, the country will move forward. The chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council also said that if you want to file a case against journalists or arrest them, you have to talk to the press council. If there is unjustified harassment of journalists, the Press Council will provide legal assistance if necessary. He said that journalism is being misused at the grassroots level. Mentioning that many of them are doing deadly work, he said that in order to protect the quality of journalists, control is needed. Respect for the profession of journalism is not the same as before. The Press Council is working to improve the quality of journalism. Journalists must have minimum educational qualifications. However, he said that this was not the case with journalists who had experience five years . Referring to the Information Technology Act, Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim, Chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council, said that there was a need for an Information Technology Act to reduce the misuse of social media and online portals. However, he disagreed with the provision that the accused could not be granted bail in the law, saying it needed to be amended. At the same time, the chairman of the press council called for the implementation of the announcement made by the information minister that “journalists cannot be arrested under this law”. The workshop was attended by 42 journalists from print and electronic media working in Rangamati.
