The PCT is being built to be anchored in ships with a draft of at least ten meters. Work on this container terminal construction project is already nearing completion. Although not in full swing in July, the terminal will be inaugurated in the port of Chittagong through partial activities.

According to sources, the port authorities have taken initiative to construct Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) by straightening the airport road from Pateng  Drydock to Boat Club.

The port authority is implementing the project on 32 acres of land at a cost of around Tk 2,000 crore from its own funds. On 13 June 2016, the government approved the project. The Chittagong Port Authority project was scheduled to be completed in December 2020. But due to multi-faceted problems including terrible corona, the project was not implemented on time. Subsequently, the project period was extended by two years in two phases till June this year. It is also hoped that the ship will anchor at PCT at the scheduled time.

The terminal will be able to handle 4.5 million TEUS containers a year. Apart from this, it will be possible to provide 220 meter long oil tanker berthing at the 220 meter long Dolphin Jetty.
