C T Online Desk: A deputy commissioner of taxes died on Wednesday afternoon as he drowned during swimming in a pond in Khulpara area under Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district.
The tax officer, Omar Faruque Masum, 35, of village Kalikapur under the upazila, was a deputy commissioner of taxes at Dhaka Taxes Zone – 13 in the capital and went to his village home during the Eid vacation.
Chatkhil police station officer-in-charge Md Gias Uddin said that the tax official, along with his three friends, went to Mallika Dighi for swimming at about 1:15pm and went missing.
On hearing the news, fire service and civil defence divers rushed to the spot and rescued him in an unconscious state at about 5:15pm and rushed him to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
He, referring to the doctors at the health complex, said that the tax official was brought dead there.
He joined the taxes department as an assistant commissioner after passing 31st Bangladesh Civil Service examination, his relatives said.
