C T Online Desk: Chattogram Metropolitan Police on Sunday said that they had arrested a woman at Pabna for her alleged involvement in embezzling money of Walton Hi Tech Industry in Chattogram.
The police recovered a total of Tk 32,89,000, out of embezzled amount of Tk 1,00,51,850, in cash from Nurjahan’s possession. The money was hidden in a pot under earth at Radhanagar in Pabna Sadar upazila.
The arrestee is Nurjahan Islam, wife of Md Faruk Hossain, of Niyamatullahpur under Sadar upazila in Pabna, Chattogram Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Md Jahidul Kabir said.
The OC said that Nurjahan assisted her husband Md Faruk Hossain, an area sales manager of Walton Hi Tech Industry in Chattogram, in embezzling the money which he collected by selling Walton’s products to the dealers.
Kotwali police station sub-inspector Mehedi Hasan told New Age that they arrested Nurjahan at Radhanagar of Pabna Sadar on April 29 and later recovered a total of Tk 32,89,000 by digging earth as the amount was hidden in a pot under the earth.
Walton Hitech Industry’s area sales manager Md Faruk Hossain allegedly embezzled a total of Tk 1,00,51,850 which was collected from the dealers after selling Walton products between April 16 and April 20, 2022.
Later he left Chattogram with the money, Mehedi said, referring to a case filed by Walton’s regional sales manager Md Nabi Alam against Md Faruk Hossain with Kotwali police station on April 22, 2022.
SI Mehedi Hasan, also the investigation officer of the case, told New Age that Faruk’s wife Nurjahan assisted her husband in embezzling the money.
‘We first detained Nurjahan for interrogation at Pabna Sadar. She later admitted that the money was hidden in a pot under the earth. We recovered the money as per the information provided by Faruk’s wife,’ the SI said.
Nurjahan was brought to Chattogram on Sunday and later she was produced before a Chattogram court that sent her to jail, he added.
OC Jahidul Kabir said that they were trying to arrest the main accused Faruk Hossain.
