Saudi Arabia, UAE to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday

C T Online Desk: The Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday and the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country on Monday, the Khaleej Times reported on Saturday evening.

The newspaper, quoting the authorities, also reported that Sunday would be the last day of Ramadan this year.

The Gulf News, quoting the UAE moon sighting committee, reported that the Shawwal crescent was not sighted in the UAE on Saturday and therefore, Sunday, May 1, would be be the last day of the Ramadan, and Monday May 2 would be the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is marked on the first day of Shawwal – the month that comes after Ramadan in the Hijri calendar.
