Mitu murder: Ex-SP Babul Akter’s bail denied

C T Online Desk:  A court of chattogram  has denied bail to former police superintendent Babul Akter in the Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case. Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman denied bail after a hearing on Wednesday (January 5th) at noon. Chittagong Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Bir Muktijoddha Advocate. Fakhruddin Chowdhury told media  that Babul Akter was granted bail in the court. The prosecution opposed bail at the hearing. After the hearing, the court denied bail to Babul Akter. Advocate Sabbir Ahmed Shakil and Md. Sahab Uddin assisted the Metropolitan Public Prosecutor. On the morning of June 5, 2016, Mitu was publicly shot and hacked to death while he was going to pick up his son in a school bus at GEC corner of the city. After the murder, a case was filed against some unidentified persons at Panchlaish police station of the city, the plaintiff of which was Babul Akhter himself. On May 12, Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed a case against six people with Babul Akhter as the main accused. The Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating agency in the case, had sought the arrest of former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter in a case filed by him at Panchlaish Police Station in connection with the December 30 murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. The court has fixed January 9 for hearing in the presence of accused Babul Akter, court sources said.
