C T Online Desk: Putting an end to all speculations, the traditional Abdul Jabbar’s ballkhela has finally been inaugurated on the banks of Laldighi in the city. Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir inaugurated the ball game on Monday (April 25) at 3:05 pm. Additional Commissioner of Police Shyamal Kumar Nath, Shamsul Alam, General Secretary of Chittagong Press Club Chowdhury Farid, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Aminul Islam, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Kotwali Zone Mujahidul Islam and others were present on the occasion. In 1909, the local Abdul Jabbar organized a wrestling competition at Laldighi ground in Saudagar to organize the youth of the country in the anti-British movement. Later it became known as Abdul Jabbar’s Balikhela. Due to the Kovid-19 epidemic, this traditional wrestling competition could not be organized for two consecutive years. The competition was organized mainly at Laldighi ground. However, the Department of Education and Engineering is implementing a project to build a six-point stage, murals of various historical events, kids corner, grass planting, boundary wall and gate construction at a cost of Tk 2.25 crore in this field. Since the ground will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it has not been opened yet. That is why Jabbar Mia’s ball game is being held on the 20 feet long and 20 feet wide sand stage in the Zila Parishad Market premises adjacent to Laldighi ground.
