Tk. 1372 cr sanctioned for Baripara canal  project in Ctg

C T Online Desk: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved CCC ‘s ‘Excavation of Canal from Bahaddarhat Baripara to Karnafuli River (2nd Amendment)’ project at a cost of Taka 1,362.72 crore. Earlier, the project had to pay 25 per cent from CCC’s  fund. It has been decided to give 100% government allocation for the approval of the revised project. Under this project, 2.9 km long canal will be dug, 20 feet road and 8 feet footpath on both sides of the canal. The canal will be 65 feet wide. Chasik has already given Tk 911 crore to the district administration for land acquisition. 5.5 km road and 5.8 km retaining wall, 9 bridges will be constructed under this project. The approval was given at the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday (April 19). The Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina joined the video conference from Ganobhaban and presided over the meeting. Planning Minister MA Mannan, Agriculture Minister. Abdur Razzak, Information and Broadcasting Minister. Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Local Government. Tajul Islam, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Environment, Forest and Climate Minister. Shahab Uddin, land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, concerned minister, state minister, mayor of Chittagong City Corporation. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury took part in the proceedings of the meeting. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Chief Coordinator of SDG, Member of Planning Commission, Secretaries of the concerned Ministries and senior officials. Rafiqul Islam, chief engineer of Chasik, told banglanews that ECNEC has approved Chasik’s project of digging canal from Bahaddarhat Baripara to Karnafuli river (2nd revised) at a cost of Taka 1,362.62 crore.
