C T Online Desk: 4 cows died after drinking water mixed with waste of Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL). The incident took place in Majhirchar area on Thursday (April 14).
At night, the owners took the dead cows to the factory gate. The victim Hossain, Md. Monir and Syed Jamal alleged that the CUFL’s toxic waste was released in Rangadia a few days later. These chemical wastes are flowing into the Karnafuli river through Gobadia canal. Cultivation is not taking place in the area due to toxic water. 4 cows died after drinking this water. Earlier, on May 7 last year, six buffaloes died after drinking the wastewater of the factory. MA Qayyum Shah, chairman of Barshat Union, said that even though CUFL had a waste treatment plant, it was not using it. The matter will be informed to the land minister.
