Demonstrating swift administrative intervention, the six-hour road and rail blockade on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway was called off after Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah personally assured protesting students that their demands would be met. The unrest erupted following the tragic death of Maisha Mushfirat, a second-semester English Literature student at International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), who lost her life when a lorry collided with a bus near Kumira.

Addressing the aggrieved students at the scene, the Deputy Commissioner pledged immediate steps to construct a pedestrian overpass near the university gate, dismantle illegal lorry parking alongside the highway, and hold the responsible driver and vehicle owners accountable. Coupled with assurances of financial compensation for the victim’s family and prompt medical care for another injured student, the administration’s commitment prompted the protesters to withdraw the blockade and restore regional transit.
