Staff Correspondent, Anowara: Engineer Ariful Islam Khan, a member of the prominent Ershad Ali Sarker family of Tailardwip in Anowara upazila of Chattogram, passed away on Friday morning, October 23. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we shall return).
His death has cast a pall of grief over his family, relatives, well-wishers and the people of Tailardwip.
The late Ariful Islam Khan was the younger brother of the late Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser, a former ambassador. He was also the husband of Meherunnessa Nizam, the younger sister of Sarwar Jamal Nizam, Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-13 (Anowara–Karnaphuli) constituency.
According to family sources, the first funeral prayer (Janaza) was held after Jummah prayers on Friday at the family residence in the Bangshal area of Chandanpura, Chattogram city. A second Janaza is scheduled to be held on Saturday evening, October 24, after which he is expected to be laid to rest at the family graveyard at Bangshal Bari in Chandanpura.
Engineer Ariful Islam Khan was known as an honest, prudent, hardworking and education-minded individual. Worshippers attending his funeral recalled his character and contributions, noting that his role and guidance in improving the quality of education, promoting good governance and advancing the overall development of Tailardwip High School would be remembered with deep respect.His contributions to education and social development will remain memorable to the local community.
Sarwar Jamal Nizam, Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-13 constituency, expressed profound grief and sorrow over his death.
In a condolence message, the lawmaker said the death of Engineer Ariful Islam Khan was a great loss, as the community had lost an honest, affable, prudent and education-minded person. He added that the void left by his passing would not be easy to fill.
In the message, the MP prayed to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of the deceased and asked Him to grant Ariful Islam Khan Jannatul Ferdous. He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Allah would grant them the strength and patience to endure this irreparable loss.
