Minister Millat announces plans to build an international airport in Trishal, Mymensingh

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh :  New discussions have begun surrounding the plan to build an international airport in Trishal, Mymensingh. There has been a long-standing demand for an international airport in the region to reduce the growing pressure of air traffic on the capital Dhaka and to develop the communication system and expand economic activities in the greater Mymensingh region.

This plan was announced by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat as the chief guest at the reception ceremony for students who scored GPA-5 in the SSC-2026 examination organized by Mymensingh City Corporation at the Sarinda Sabari Resort in the city on Sunday morning (October 11).

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury, MP from Mymensingh Sadar constituency Abu Wahab Akand Wahid and Administrator of Mymensingh City Corporation Md. Rukunozzaman spoke in favor of the demand for building an airport in Mymensingh at the event. They said that Greater Mymensingh is a populated and promising region. Although there is huge potential in agriculture, education, health and business, it is not being fully utilized due to the lack of modern communication.

Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Millat said, “Dhaka’s current airport will not be able to handle the increasing pressure for much longer. A large international airport is needed to meet future demands. I have plans to establish an airport in Trishal.”

He further said that building such a large infrastructure is not a small matter. It requires long-term planning, feasibility study, selection of suitable land, environmental impact assessment and securing financing. Therefore, we have to move forward with patience and in a planned manner.

According to those concerned, Trishal could be a suitable place for an airport considering its geographical location, Dhaka-Mymensingh highway connectivity and economic potential. If the airport is implemented, it will bring revolutionary changes not only in transportation but also in trade and commerce, agricultural exports, investment, employment and tourism sectors. Congratulating the students who obtained GPA-5 at today’s reception, the minister said that young talents will build the smart Bangladesh of the future.
