C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) has conducted an eviction drive to clear the encroachment of footpaths from Charpara intersection, an important road in Mymensingh city, to the main gate of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. In the drive conducted on Monday (July 27) afternoon, about 40 illegal shops were evicted and four establishments were fined through a mobile court for operating businesses by encroaching on footpaths.
It is known that for a long time, various types of temporary shops and illegal establishments had been set up occupying the sidewalks of that road. This was causing extreme hardship to pedestrians and also causing traffic congestion on the road. The MOSIC conducted this eviction drive in the wake of complaints from local residents and pedestrians.
The concerned officials of the Metropolitan Municipality were present during the operation. They expressed their strict stance to keep the sidewalk free from encroachment and issued a warning to prevent anyone from illegally encroaching on the sidewalk again in the future.
According to the city’s municipal corporation, such eviction drives will be conducted in phases on various important roads and populated areas of the city. It was also informed that regular monitoring activities will be strengthened in addition to keeping the sidewalks free of encroachments to ensure smooth movement of the city residents.
Meanwhile, many illegal shopkeepers were busy removing their goods in the sudden operation. While some expressed anger, locals welcomed such initiatives in the larger interest of the city residents.
Conscious circles are seeing the eviction drive by the MCIC as a positive step towards restoring order in the city.
