Train services to Cox’s Bazar suspended as railway line goes under water

C T Online Desk: Bangladesh Railway has suspended all train services on the Cox’s Bazar route as a section of the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar railway line between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations went under water.

The railway authority also announced that passengers wishing to cancel their journeys would be eligible for full fare refunds.

Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Anisur Rahman confirmed the development early on Wednesday.

He said the Tourist Express, which departed Dhaka for Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday, had its onward journey from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar cancelled and returned to Dhaka on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Cox’s Bazar Express, which left Dhaka early on Wednesday, is being held at Chattogram Railway Station. The train will not be allowed to continue to Cox’s Bazar until the affected railway line is declared safe for operation.

To minimise inconvenience, Bangladesh Railway has introduced alternative arrangements for passengers. Those wishing to cancel their trips may claim refunds at the ticket counter at Chattogram Railway Station.

Passengers who prefer to return to Dhaka will be able to travel on the same Cox’s Bazar Express, which is scheduled to depart Chattogram for the capital at 4:00pm.

Bangladesh Railway expressed regret for the disruption caused by the natural disaster and said train services would resume once floodwaters recede from the track and safety is fully ensured.
