C T Online Desk: Mahmud Foysal, Noakhali : A press conference has been held to protest against the death threats against Jabed Alam Kiron, publisher and editor of the national daily Janatar Zamin, published by DFP Media from Dhaka, and to demand the security of his family.
The press conference was held at the Noakhali Press Club on Saturday (June 20) afternoon. The victim alleged that a malicious group has been threatening him with death in various ways, including social media, for a long time and making indecent and ugly comments about his family.
In a written statement to the press conference, Jabed Alam Kiran said that on December 1, 2025, he was attacked by miscreants in the Paltan area of Dhaka. When the national emergency service 999 was contacted in this incident, the Paltan police rescued him and took him to the head office of his newspaper in Kakrail.
Also, on December 16 of the same year, when he was participating in a night football tournament as a guest in the Ghaserkhil area of Deoti Union in Sonaimuri Upazila, another attempt was made to kill him. He took shelter at the house of a local UP member and was rescued by the Sonaimuri Police Station.
Later, police members led by the police station’s SI Kamal safely took him to his home.
Jabed Alam Kiran said that after the incident, he filed a general diary (GD) with the Sonaimuri Police Station, naming four people and several unknown others as accused. But even after six months, he complained that he had not received any effective remedy regarding the GD. He claimed that his opponents are still active and can harm him and his family at any time. As a result, he is suffering from extreme insecurity.
At the press conference, he drew the attention of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Noakhali-1 MP Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and the concerned administration to ensure his safety, conduct a proper investigation into the incident and take swift legal action against those responsible. He also sought urgent intervention and overall cooperation from the administration.
When asked about this, Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Md. Kabir Hossain said, “I don’t know why he held the press conference. However, a general diary has been filed with the police station regarding who or what is threatening him and a prosecution will be filed subject to investigation if the court allows it.”
