C T Online Desk: Mahmud Foysal, Noakhali : A seminar on National Report of Economic Census-2024 was held in Noakhali. The seminar was held yesterday (June 18) afternoon in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The seminar, organized by the Economic Census-2024 project under the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Statistics and Information Management Division, Ministry of Planning, was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Noakhali, Shantanu Kumar Das, and was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali, Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, as the chief guest, and Superintendent of Police of Noakhali, N.M. Nasiruddin, as the special guest. At this time, Acting Deputy Director of the District Statistics Office, Harun-or Rashid, presented the keynote paper and delivered the welcome speech.
The seminar was also attended by former principal of Noakhali Government College Kazi Rafiqul Islam and representatives of the district civil surgeon, Noakhali district freedom fighter commander, heads of various government departments, journalists, officials of development cooperation organizations, representatives of businessmen from various classes and professions. In addition, officials and employees of nine upazilas of the district also participated in the seminar.
Deputy Director of the Statistics Office Harun-or Rashid said,
“The main objective of the economic census is to prepare reliable statistics related to the structural changes in the country’s non-agricultural economy. In addition, to collect and publish data according to the international guidelines of the United Nations, to classify economic institutions into large, medium, small, micro and cottage industries according to the National Industrial Policy-2022, and to create a database necessary for planning.
The speakers said that the contribution of the service sector to the country’s economy is continuously increasing and the information from the economic census will play an important role in formulating sustainable economic plans.”
Speaking as a special guest at the seminar, Superintendent of Police N.M. Nasiruddin said, “If people are engaged in work, the crime rate in the society decreases. A society, country and nation benefit a lot economically from work-oriented people. At this time, he thanked everyone involved in the Economic Census-2024.”
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said, “The information obtained through this census has presented a clear picture of the economic reality and potential of Noakhali. If rural and small entrepreneurs are developed, trained, have easy access to credit, and infrastructural facilities are increased, the economic activities of the district will be more dynamic. He expressed hope that it is possible to further accelerate the economic development of Noakhali by using this information-based data to plan initiatives and increase investments.”
