morning. During this time, he spoke to the local people and inquired about their suffering on the spot. The Goatla Bailey Bridge, which was declared risky ten years ago, collapsed early yesterday morning along with a sand-laden truck.

Dhobaura Upazila Executive Officer Mosharraf Hossain, LGED Upazila Engineer Indu Bhushan Biswas, Goatala Union Parishad Chairman Zakirul Islam Talukder Toton, Upazila BNP Convener Professor Azharul Islam Kajal, Member Secretary Anisur Rahman Manik, Senior Joint Convener Moazzem Hossain Khan Liton, along with leaders and activists of Upazila and Union BNP and affiliated organizations were present during the inspection.

At that time, Syed Emran Saleh Prince said, “The common people of this region have suffered greatly due to the collapse of the Goatala Bailey Bridge on the Dhobaura-Tarakanda road. Students, farmers, businessmen and working people are facing hardships in their daily commute. This road is very important for the economic and social activities of the area.”

He urged the local people to be patient and said, “I have already spoken to the Local Government Minister, Secretary, LGED Chief Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, District Superintending Engineer. Necessary initiatives will be taken to adopt alternative transportation arrangements and permanently rebuild the bridge as soon as possible. We are working with utmost sincerity to alleviate the suffering of the people.”

After the inspection, he provided necessary instructions to the concerned engineers and officials and emphasized the need to quickly prepare a technical report on the damaged bridge.

At that time, Syed Emran Saleh Prince said that immediately after receiving the news of the collapse of the Goatla Bailey Bridge, he contacted the relevant officials of the Ministry of Local Government, LGED and the local administration. He spoke to the Minister of Local Government, the Secretary of the Ministry, the Chief Engineer of LGED, the Mymensingh District Engineer and the officials of the Dhobaura Upazila administration and highlighted the need to take urgent measures to alleviate the public suffering, quickly repair the Bailey Bridge and build a permanent new bridge.

He said that a DO letter has also been submitted to the Local Government Minister in this regard. Initiatives have already been taken to repair the collapsed Bailey Bridge and the concerned authorities have started work to normalize traffic quickly.

Prince said, “Although this bridge was declared dangerous about ten years ago, no effective initiative was taken to build a permanent new bridge. As a result, people have been moving in uncertainty for years. We had promised to build this important bridge in the last election. But this unfortunate accident occurred before the construction of the permanent bridge could begin.”

He further said, “The Dhobaura-Tarakanda road is very important for the livelihood of the people of this region, transportation of agricultural products, education and trade. In addition to a quick temporary solution to reduce the suffering of the people, all necessary initiatives will be taken to construct a permanent new bridge. I hope the concerned ministry and LGED will consider the importance of the matter and arrange a quick permanent solution.”
