CHT Affairs minister Dipen Dewan resigns

C T Online Desk: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has submitted his resignation.

He submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday (June 1), citing health complications.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon confirmed the matter.

In the letter, Dipen Dewan said he had been suffering from various physical complications since taking charge as minister, which had created difficulties in carrying out his regular ministerial duties.

He said he believed he needed to step down in the interest of maintaining the pace of the government’s development activities and administrative work.

Dewan requested the prime minister to accept his resignation, saying his illness had made it difficult for him to discharge his duties properly.

Dipen Dewan is a member of parliament from Rangamati Hill District and had been serving as minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs.

However, there was no immediate statement from the Prime Minister’s Office or the Cabinet Division on whether the resignation had been accepted.
