C T Online Desk: The police have filed a case over the attack on a joint force camp in Jangal Salimpur in Sitakunda, Chittagong and the demolition of an under-construction camp with an excavator.
The police case was filed with Sitakunda police station on Monday (May 25) night, naming 43 people.
Sitakunda police station inspector (investigation) Alamgir Hossain confirmed this information and said that Faujdarhat outpost inspector Sohel Rana filed the case as the plaintiff.
The case mentions the names of 43 people, including five who were arrested from the scene. In addition, 200-300 unknown people have been made accused.
He also said that the case has been filed under various sections including incitement to damage government property, obstruction of police work and explosion.
Earlier, terrorists opened fire unexpectedly at a joint force camp located at Alinagar School in Salimpur around 1:00am on Sunday. The law enforcement forces also returned fire in self-defense, turning the entire area into a battlefield. The shooting continued for about two hours.
For more than three decades, land grabbers and criminal groups had controlled government-owned khas land in Jungle Salimpur, effectively running their own stronghold.
After a RAB officer was killed during an operation there on January 19 this year, around 4,000 members of the joint forces launched a major drive on March 9 and declared the area under administrative control.
Although a permanent camp was later established there, the attackers demolished part of it in what officials believe was an attempt to re-establish their dominance in the area.
