Prantik Chakraborty: Passes Away Advocate Haripada Chakraborty, a distinguished lawyer, eminent social reformer, and proud son of Anowara and Paraikora, passed away on 14 May 2026. His demise has cast a deep shadow of grief among people from all walks of life. Throughout his long professional career, he established a remarkable example of honesty, integrity, and humanity. He served with a great reputation and efficiency for more than two decades in several important judicial positions, including Assistant Public Prosecutor, Judicial Magistrate-3, Public Prosecutor of the Anti-Smuggling Tribunal in Chattogram, and Judge under the Vested Property Return Act. Apart from his legal career, he made significant contributions to the legal community and society. He was a former President of the Chattogram Lawyers’ Welfare Council, former General Secretary of the Anowara Upazila Lawyers’ Association, and former General Secretary of the Vested Property Protection Cell of Anowara Police Station.
Advocate Haripada Chakraborty will always be remembered for his contribution to the legal profession, his honesty, wisdom, and humanitarian values. Alongside his professional achievements, he was also widely respected for his social service and religious involvement. His ideals and works will continue to inspire future generations. He served as President of the Anowara Upazila Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, Vice-President of the Chattogram South District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, and Joint General Secretary of the Paraikora Ramakrishna Sebashram. He was also a founding organizer and life member of the Anwara Sri Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Sebashram, former President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (Anowara branch), former President of the Sri Sri Rajrajeshwar Temple Management Committee, honorary patron of the Chalantika and Sri Sri Loknath Brahmachari Sebashram, and former General Secretary of the Sri Krishna Temple in Sitakunda, Chattogram, established by Sri Krishna Sebak Sangha. Born into a respected Brahmin family of Paraikora Union, he was the son of the late Ray Mohan Chakraborty and the late Manadabala Chakraborty. Among his siblings, he was regarded as one of the most accomplished personalities. His elder brother, the late Upendra Chakraborty, was martyred by Pakistani occupation forces during the Liberation War of 1971, while another brother, the late Purna Chakraborty, was a valiant freedom fighter.
In his personal life, Advocate Haripada Chakraborty was known as a humble, kind-hearted, and generous person. He leaves behind his wife, children, relatives, admirers and countless well-wishers. Leaders of various social, political, and religious organizations have expressed profound sorrow at his passing.
His last rites will be performed on Sunday, 24 May 2026, at his ancestral home.
Through his deeds and ideals, Advocate Haripada Chakraborty will remain forever alive in
the hearts of people. As the poet wrote:
“People live on eternally through the memories they leave behind”.
