School premises submerged in water, teachers and students in extreme suffering

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh:  Bailor Mathbari Government Primary School No. 20, located in Ward No. 7 of Bailor Union in Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh, has been in extreme distress due to waterlogging for a long time. Normal educational activities are disrupted as the school premises are submerged in water for about six months of the year. The suffering of students, teachers and guardians is increasing day by day.

According to local sources, students have to take risks to travel to school due to waterlogging around the school. Especially during the rainy season, the school grounds and surrounding areas are submerged in water, making it very difficult for young students to travel to and from school. At times, attendance rates also decrease.

The school principal said that this problem has been going on for a long time. Although the matter has been informed to the concerned authorities at the upazila level several times, no effective permanent solution has been found so far. She demanded immediate water drainage and improvement of the school environment.

In this regard, Upazila Primary Education Officer Nilufar Hakim said, “We have been informed about the matter. We have spoken to the concerned authorities. Necessary measures will be taken to resolve the problem very soon.”

Locals demand that effective steps be taken to quickly resolve waterlogging and improve the school’s infrastructure to ensure that young students can learn in a safe and normal environment. The locals have sought the attention of the concerned authorities so that the school does not fall victim to neglect for years.
