C T Online Desk: April 7, 2026- Former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been arrested from the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) arrested her from her residence in Dhanmondi on Monday night.
Additional Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter today.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is now in DB custody in connection with a case, he said.
However, details regarding the nature of the case were not immediately disclosed.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury served as the first female speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad since April 2013 until September 2024.
She was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Rangpur-6 constituency.
