C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : A discussion meeting was held in Trishal, Mymensingh, to celebrate the 127th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam nationally and to promote culture in Mymensingh division.
The meeting was held on Saturday (April 4) morning at the Nazrul Auditorium in Darirampur, Trishal, organized by the Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
The chief guest was State Minister for Culture Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam, MP. In his speech, he said, “Nazrul is our inspiration for hatred, love and equality. Mymensingh’s Trishal is a holy land intertwined with the memory of Nazrul. We want to celebrate his 127th birth anniversary in such a way that the new generation can be inspired by the poet’s ideals.” He expressed his promise to further accelerate cultural activities in Mymensingh division.
In his speech as a special guest, Honorable State Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Yaser Khan Chowdhury, MP, said, “Bangladesh needs the proper use of information technology to spread Nazrul’s literature to the world. The government is determined to protect the cultural heritage of Mymensingh.”
Chaired by Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi, the main discussant of the exchange of views, Dr. Mahabubur Rahman Liton, Member of Parliament for Trishal constituency of Mymensingh-7, shed light on the poet’s life and philosophy, and emphasized the need to create a strong cultural circle in the division and to hold Nazrul’s birth anniversary in Trishal every year at the national level.
The meeting was attended by Mymensingh-11 MP Fakhruddin Ahmed, Mymensingh-6 MP Kamrul Hasan, Mymensingh-2 MP Mufti Mahmudullah, senior officials of the division, district and upazila administrations, prominent cultural figures, poets and writers, and journalists.
The speakers requested the Ministry of Culture to promote culture in Mymensingh division, in addition to celebrating Nazrul’s birth anniversary at the national level at Trishal, the memorial of the national poet.
