C T Online Desk: At least 19 people, including a child, were injured after a bus overturned in Rangamati on Thursday.
The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Sapchhari area of Kawkhali upazila when the bus lost control and flipped over. Police later recovered the vehicle and took it to the Betbunia police outpost.
According to police, the bus was travelling from Naniarchar upazila to Chittagong city with around 40 passengers on board, most of whom were returning to work after the Eid holidays. Nineteen passengers were injured in the incident.
Of the injured, 10 were admitted to Rangamati General Hospital, while nine others, including a child, were given primary treatment.
Those admitted to hospital are Russel Chakma, Antara Chakma, Jewel Chakma, Sabinoy Chakma, Doya Rani Chakma, Sucharita Chakma, Ripon Chakma, Shubho Devi Chakma, Bipin Chakma and Shefalika Chakma. Those who received outpatient treatment include Bhuventu Chakma, Suyentu Chakma, Bitna Chakma, Khokon Chakma, Shubho Chakma, Joya Chakma and Forsa Chakma, among others.
Tuhin Chakma, who was seriously injured, was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. A seven-month-old child, Rip Chakma, was also given primary treatment.
Saikat Akbar, resident medical officer at Rangamati General Hospital, said 19 injured people were brought to the hospital. Of them, eight received outpatient care, while one was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The others are undergoing treatment.
Kawkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Enamul Chowdhury, said the bus had been recovered and taken to the Betbunia police outpost, adding that legal action would be taken.
