Astami Snan celebrated in Jamalpur

C T Online Desk: April 9, 2022- ‘Astami Snan’ (dip in old Brahmaputra), one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community, was celebrated
here today with due religious fervor.

President of ‘Astami Snan’ and Mela committee Prodip Kumar Som said thousands
of Hindu devotees from various parts of the country came in the district to
observe the religious festival.

“Devotees performed the religious ritual here in a peaceful atmosphere while
the holy dip in the old Brahmaputra was began in the morning,” he said,
adding that the devotees performed worship at ‘Doyamoyee’ temple in the town
after taking holy bath in the river.

To mark the festival, a three-day folk fair began in and around the temple
where a large number of people from irrespective of all sections thronged the
fair premises to purchase essential products.

During the festival, the law and order situation was well as district
administration and police have taken special security measures, Som added.
