Strike at Chattogram Port: Travel ban sought against 15 employees

C T Online Desk: The Chattogram Port Authority has sought the imposition of travel bans on 15 employees who have been protesting against the leasing of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), branding them as instigators of chaos under the guise of a movement.

The authority has also requested investigations into their movable and immovable assets by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The request was made in a letter signed by Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim and sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping on Thursday.

Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the ACC, the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the Ministry of Home Affairs and other relevant agencies for necessary action.

The letter stated that the employees concerned were allegedly involved in activities against the state and that investigations against them were already under way. It requested that the relevant departments and agencies be informed to ensure that travel restrictions are imposed so they cannot leave the country.

The port authority also urged the ACC to investigate all movable and immovable assets of the 15 employees and take action accordingly.

Those named in the complaint include Md Humayun Kabir, coordinator of the Chattogram Port Protection Movement Committee and coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Port Workers’ Dal; fellow coordinator Md Ibrahim Khokon; and port employees Md Faridur Rahman, Mohammad Shafi Uddin, Rashidul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Jahirul Islam, Khandaker Masuduzzaman, Md Humayun Kabir, Md Shakil Raihan, Manik Majhi, Md Shamsu Mia, Md Liyakat Ali, Aminur Rasul Bulbul and Md Rabbani.

Following the launch of the movement, 16 individuals — including Humayun Kabir and Ibrahim Khokon — were transferred. However, they have not joined their new postings.

Attempts to contact the port secretary for comments were unsuccessful as he could not be reached by phone.
