C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : The ‘Olympic Village’ project has opened a new horizon for sports development in Trishal, Mymensingh. Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman laid the foundation stone of this milestone project in the field of sports.
He officially inaugurated the project at the proposed project area in Trishal Upazila on Sunday (February 1) morning. He expressed hope that if this Olympic Village is implemented, it will accelerate the infrastructural development of the country’s sports arenas and play an important role in producing international-standard athletes.
Earlier, at the beginning of the visit, the Army Chief participated in a meeting organized at the conference room of Mymensingh City Corporation to discuss the upcoming parliamentary elections in a peaceful, impartial and fair manner. At the meeting, he gave a directional speech to the army personnel assigned to election duties.
Senior military officers of Mymensingh Division, members of law enforcement agencies and civil administration officials were present at the meeting. The army chief said that every army member must maintain the highest professionalism, impartiality, discipline and patience while performing election duties. At the same time, he emphasized on ensuring citizen-friendly behavior to gain the trust of the common people.
After the meeting, he inspected the various activities of the army personnel deployed under the ‘In Aid to the Civil Power’ and provided necessary guidance.
Later, as the president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), the army chief laid the foundation stone of the proposed Olympic Village project in Trishal. He said that through the implementation of this project, the country’s young athletes will get the opportunity to train in modern facilities, which will further strengthen Bangladesh’s sports arena at the international level in the future.
Sports and development circles believe that if the Olympic Village is established in Trishal, it will become an important center for sports development not only locally, but also at the national level.
