Begum Rokeya’s Dream Still Guides Us: Chief Adviser

C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Sabbir | Special Correspondent : Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has urged the nation to move forward with the spirit and ideals of Begum Rokeya to build a new Bangladesh. He made the call on Tuesday (9 December) while addressing the Begum Rokeya Day celebration at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Dr. Yunus said Begum Rokeya’s revolutionary dream continues to inspire generations. “If Begum Rokeya could dream a century ago, why can’t we? She pushed society far ahead, and it is now our turn to take it further,” he said. “Even if we cannot do everything, at least we can dream. Today, in this era of technology, nothing is impossible if we truly want to achieve it.”

He described the post-uprising generation of women as the driving force of a transformed Bangladesh. “These women are not just inspiring women; they inspire the whole nation. We must uphold them so they do not become ignored figures like Begum Rokeya once was,” he added.

Dr. Yunus praised Rokeya’s farsightedness, highlighting her call for educating girls so they could earn independently. “She didn’t speak about jobs; she spoke about other means of income. Today we talk about entrepreneurship—she envisioned it 100 years ago. Why can’t we learn from that?”

Commending the award recipients of the day, he said, “They are not only daughters of Bangladesh; they are global leaders. Honouring them today is only the beginning. Their achievements will inspire every girl across the country to rise and dream bigger.”

The Chief Adviser said the awardees are taking Bangladesh to a new height. “Their philosophy and presence are not just significant nationally, but globally. The world respects them, and today Bangladesh celebrates them.
