C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Sabbir | Special Correspondent : The National Citizen Party (NCP) has received its official registration certificate from the Election Commission (EC), with ‘Shapla Koli’ allocated as the party’s electoral symbol. NCP Convenor Nahid Islam collected the certificate after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner at the EC headquarters in Agargaon on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Nahid Islam welcomed the recent amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO). He strongly criticised the move by a “particular political group” to challenge the reforms in court, alleging attempts to pressure the government, state institutions and the judiciary to support a “one-symbol election model.” He urged the EC to remain firm on its proposal that all parties should contest elections using their own symbols.
The NCP leader said party activists at both the central and grassroots levels had worked tirelessly since the beginning of the registration process. “After many hurdles, we finally received the symbol. NCP will contest the upcoming polls with Shapla Koli,” he said.
Expressing concern over the role of money and influence in elections, Nahid called for strict scrutiny of candidates’ affidavits and tougher monitoring of expenditure. He urged the EC to take immediate action against those using illegal funds. He also alleged political influence behind the transfer of deputy commissioners and police superintendents, warning that such influence could affect election neutrality.
On the issue of the proposed referendum, NCP requested the EC to ensure proper public communication so that accurate information reaches voters. The party also called for stronger measures to prevent misinformation and disinformation during the election period.
