The Chattogram Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court hosted the Police–Magistracy Conference at it’s conference hall on Thursday
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Kazi Mizanur Rahman chaired the event while. Additional CMM Sarker Hasan Shahriar, Metropolitan Magistrates Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil, Md. Abu Bakar Siddiq, Mohammad Mostafa, and Nusrat Jahan Jinnia , senior officials from various law enforcement and regulatory bodies attended the meeting, including representatives from the CID, PBI (Chattogram Metro), DB (North Division) of CMP, Prosecution Wing, the District Magistrate’s Office, Chittagong Medical College, Forensic Medicine, Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone), the Department of Environment, RAB, Industrial Police, Traffic Police, River Police, and the Department of Narcotics Control , officers-in-Charge (OCs) of all 16 police stations under Chattogram Metropolitan Police, police inspectors.Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan and Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Nezam Uddin were among others present on the occasion..
Opening the meeting, CMM Kazi Mizanur Rahman reviewed the progress of decisions from the previous conference and issued directives to speed up judicial proceedings.
He instructed magistrates and investigating officers to ensure faster case processing and emphasized strict adherence to the recently amended Criminal Procedure Code, particularly the mandatory Memorandum of Arrest, to prevent harassment of innocent individuals.
He also called on police officials to complete investigations within the prescribed timelines and submit reports efficiently. He further instructed authorities to ensure timely production of witnesses and guarantee their safety.
Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Advocate Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan highlighted the need to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, support staff, and witnesses to maintain the integrity of the justice system.
Responding to requests from police station officials for quicker medical documentation, Chittagong Medical College representative Dr. Junaid Ahmed assured that steps were being taken to speed up the issuance of medical certificates required for case proceedings.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sarker Hasan Shahriar reported that 532 accused individuals were placed on probation over the last ten months.
He added that seized case exhibits auctioned during this period generated Tk 1.15 crore, which has been deposited into the national treasury.
In his concluding remarks, CMM Kazi Mizanur Rahman said that the criminal justice system relies on the combined efforts of the judiciary, executive administration, and police, describing the institutions as complementary partners.
He emphasized that strengthening public confidence in the judiciary requires transparency, sincerity, and a collaborative spirit across all relevant sectors. He urged all agencies to work beyond individual interests and uphold their responsibilities to ensure justice for litigants.
The conference ended with a vote of thanks from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
