Bangladesh crush West Indies to seal ODI series

C T Online Desk: It was Bangladesh’s second-biggest ODI win, only behind the 183-run triumph against Ireland.

Bangladesh sealed the ODI series against West Indies in style, securing a dominant 179-run victory in the third and final match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

It was Bangladesh’s second-biggest ODI win, only behind the 183-run triumph against Ireland.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first and finally rediscovered their batting rhythm. Openers Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan laid a brilliant foundation with a record 176-run partnership — the team’s second-highest for the opening stand in ODIs. Both batters capitalized on early reprieves, playing confidently against spin. Saif smashed 80 off 72 balls with six fours and six sixes, while Soumya narrowly missed a century, scoring 91 off 86 balls.

Following their dismissals, Towhid Hridoy (28) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (44) kept the scoreboard moving, though the innings lost momentum in the latter stages. Contributions from Nurul Hasan (16) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17) guided Bangladesh to a strong total of 296 for 8. Akeal Hosein was the pick of the West Indies bowlers with 4 for 41.

In reply, West Indies crumbled under relentless pressure, bowled out for just 117 in 30.1 overs. Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed shared three wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam claimed two apiece. None of the visiting batters managed to cross 30, as Bangladesh’s spinners dictated terms on a turning track.

This emphatic win not only clinched the series 2–1 but also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s dominance at home.
