C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir : FENI, Oct 17 — Members of the “July Movement” staged a demonstration on Friday afternoon by blocking the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Feni, protesting a reported police baton charge on their fellows during a rally at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka.
The protesters also demanded official recognition for those injured during the July uprising, which they described as a movement of “students and people for justice.”
The demonstration began around 2:45 pm near the southern part of the Mahipal flyover, halting traffic on both lanes of the busy highway for about 30 minutes. The blockade caused a long tailback, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded in scorching heat.
Eyewitnesses said the activists brought out a procession before taking position on the highway, chanting slogans such as “Why the attack in Dhaka?”, “Recognize July’s wounded fighters,” and “The interim government has failed.”
Police rushed to the scene and cleared the road by 3:20 pm, said Sajal Kanti Das, inspector (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station.
“Traffic has now returned to normal,” the police official told The Daily Commercial Times.
