C T Online Desk: Mymensingh Representative :  Mymensingh District BNP Joint Convener and Trishal Upazila BNP Convener Enamul Haque Bhuiyan has expressed regret and apologized for a statement that slipped out of his mouth.

On October 11, while giving a speech at a meeting of BNP leaders and activists in Dhanikhola Union of the upazila, a word slipped out of his mouth. When the speech was circulated on social media, it sparked a storm of criticism.

Later, in an interview on Tuesday (October 14), he said that his statement was a ‘slip of the tongue’ and said, “I have been actively involved with the ideology of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party for 40 years. In this long political life, I have been the victim of numerous lawsuits, attacks and torture. I was the convener of Trishal Upazila Chhatra Dal. Starting from that student politics, I have been making relentless efforts to strengthen the party every time I have received various organizational responsibilities in the party. The favorite symbol of my favorite party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, is the sheaf of rice, so I express my regret to all the leaders and activists of my party for the statement I made. In fact, my statement was about what is independent, what is the boat, what is the Jamaat-Shibir! When many symbols are mentioned together, that word unintentionally slipped out of my mouth.”

Calling for votes in favor of the rice sheaf symbol in the next election, he further said, “We will elect the future statesman Tarique Rahman, whomever we send the trident with the rice sheaf symbol, and establish the right to rice and vote for the crores of people of this country, God willing
