CUCSU nomination form submission extended for one day

C T Online Desk: Previously, the Election Commission already kept nomination forms available until Tuesday 10pm in following student’s demand.

The nomination papers collection and submission deadline for The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and hall unions’ elections has been extended for one day.

Due to the exams in various departments the election commission of CUCSU and hall unions’ election decided to provide the opportunity for the students.

The Chief Election Commissioner of the CUCSU and Hall Union Elections 2025, Prof Monir Uddin, confirmed the decision to Daily Sun at around 12:30pm on Wednesday.

Earlier the deadline for collecting nomination papers was Tuesday (16 September), while the deadline for submission was set for Wednesday (17 September).

Professor Monir Uddin said, “There is an overwhelming enthusiasm among students regarding the CUCSU elections of 2025. However, a large number of students were unable to collect nomination forms within the deadline due to examinations and other reasons.”

“In order to ensure equal and fair opportunities for all to practise their democratic rights, the deadlines for the nomination forms collection and submission have been extended by one day, until 5pm on 17 and 18 September respectively,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chhatra Dal branch general secretary Abdullah Al Noman submitted a written application to the Election Commission, requesting for two days extension for the nomination form collection and submission.

He cited the recent clashes between students and villagers, as well as ongoing examinations across several departments, as reasons for the appeal.

Following the extension announcement, Islami Chhatra Shibir halted the unveiling of the panel they are baking. They scheduled the announcement at 12pm on Wednesday at Jarul Tola on campus.

Previously, the Election Commission already kept nomination forms available until Tuesday 10pm in following student’s demand.

1,088 candidates had collected papers to contest 232 posts by that deadline. Of these, 488 students collected forms for 26 CUCSU posts, while 600 students collected forms for 206 posts across 14 halls and one hostel.

The Election Commission will publish the preliminary list of candidates on 21 September and the final list on 25 September. Students will cast their votes on 12 October from 9 am to 4 pm.

Chittagong University last held a CUCSU election in 1990, and now, after 35 long years, the student body is finally electing its representatives again.
