C T Online Desk: Mr. Moinuddin Quadery Showkat has started Journalism in 1969. He was a freedom fighter of Bangladesh liberation war in 1971. He elected an Executive council member of World Association of Press Councils WAPC on October 26, 2004 in the General Assembly of 9th international Conference of WAPC at Bagamoya, Tanzania. He attended the WAPC Executive Council Meeting and General Assembly held in Istanbul, Turkey on 9th to 11th June 2006 and 9-10 July 2009. He is one of the Signatory of Istanbul Declaration 2006. He also joined WAPC meeting in New Delhi, India. He Joined the WAPC EC meeting in Lefkosa (Nicosia), TRNC on 26-27 March 2010. Mr. M.Q. Showkat is a Past member of Bangladesh Press Council, Press Judicial Committee and Press Rules Committee. Convener, Bangladesh Editors Association (An organization of Newspapers Editors, Publish from out side of Dhaka) Convener, Eastern Editors council Bangladesh, General Secretary, Chittagong Newspapers Council and Chittagong Editors Council. He was also the Vice president of Bangladesh Sangbadpattra Parishat BSP (2002-2004) Election Commissioner, Chittagong. Press Club (1987-1991), Chairman, Election Committee, Journalists Co-operative Housing Society-2005 and managing committee 2014-2017, Chittagong, BD. Mr. Moinuddin Quadery Showkat is the Founder Editor of Bengali Newspaper the Iztihad, which was ban from 1984 to 1990 during autocratic period for publishing two news items. One was on the killing of Martyr president Ziaur Rahman and another was on a statement to the special Martial law court by 1952 language Movement’s leader Mr. Oli Ahad. Later Mr. Showkat filed a writ petition in the High court Division of the Honorable Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Barrister Aminul Huq (Ex-Honorable Minister) conducted this case. Mr. M.Q. Showkat accorded Reception by chittagong Press Club as Journalist – Freedom fighter on March 26, 1996. And also accorded Reception by the same club as worthy Journalist on October 10, 2006. He was a member of Bangladesh Co Operative Books Society, Chittagong University Management Association and Govt. Commerce College Ex Student Association.
Chittagong City Corporation accorded reception as heroic freedom fighter on 26 December 2016, Chittagong Reporters Unity accorded reception for outstanding contribution for heroic journalism of last quarter of past century (1975-2000) and uphold the prestige of Bangladesh in world forum as an executive member of Word Association of Press Councils. (2004-2010)
He joined the EC meeting of WAPC in different countries of the world like Turkey, Tanzania, India, Cyprus.
Press council of India published two write ups of Showkat, in the souvenirs which came out on the of National press day of India in the year 2006 and 2007. The title of these two write ups Press Freedom : A continuing struggle’ (2006, PCI souvenir, page : 145) and Freedom of the press is a fundamental rights’ (2007, PCI souvenir, page : 69). In this two souvenirs the than Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (2006), than Indian President Ms. Pratibha Devisingh Patil (2007), than Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Information Minister PR Dasmunsi, Defense minister Mr. Pranab Mukharjee (Later President of India) than Gujarat chief minister (now Indian Prime minister) Mr. Narendra Modi, than Delhi chief minister Ms. Sheila Dikshit, World Association Press Councils (WAPC) President Mr. Oktay Eksi and many other international Personalities write-ups and massages Published in the befitting way. Mr. Justice GN Ray was the Chairman of Press council of India at that Period.
His country report in WAPC considered best report of the world as excellent and candid in the year 2007-2008. World Association of Press Councils-WAPC 9th international conference in Bagamoyo, Dar-ES-Salaam, Tanzania on 24-26 October 2004 accepted his paper on `Towards a free and accountable media for democratic international governance’ as one of the best report of these conference. There he elected an executive council member of 11 (eleven) number EC of WAPC. Showkat was a member of WAPC constitution committee 2006 which formed in Istanbul. His report also appreciated in the WAPC general assembly, Istanbul on 9-10 July, 2009 and Cyprus on 24-26 March, 2010.
He is the youngest son of Alhaj Late Abdul Latif Ukil, a renowned lawyer and first Muslim President of Chittagong Bar Association and founder President, Greater Chittagong Awami Muslim League (1949) a grandson of Hazrat Moulana Nur Ahmed Al Quadery (R) Mohora and youngest Brother of Prof. Dr. L.A Quadary, an eminent Neurosurgeon of Asia. Mr. Moinuddin Quadary Showkat is the founder Adviser of Independent Newspapers Readers Association Bangladesh in 1984. Mr. M. Q. Showkat always willing to learn from elders and seniors.
His wife Sheikh Afsana Quadery Ex- Acting editor of Iztihad. Son Shehab Quadery Associate Editor, The Iztihad and daughter Samina Quadery.
