CU authorities to pay for treatment of students injured in clash with lcoals

C T Online Desk: The Chittagong University (CU) syndicate on Monday took a number of decisions regarding students’ long-term safety and their recent clash with locals.

The university authority would pay for the medical treatment of students injured in the Saturday-Sunday clashes, said Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin, pro-vice chancellor for administrative affairs.

A five-member committee has been formed to this end, he told reporters.

The authorities were to also file a lawsuit against the culprits by Tuesday, and would review progress in this regard at a follow-up meeting on Tuesday, according to Dr Md Kamal Uddin.

The authorities would also retain the striking force of security personnel in and around the campus until the situation stabilises. The university would launch a security hotline for the students, it was decided at the syndicate meeting.

The authorities would form a dedicated committee for coordinating with landowners in the nearby Jobra area with regards to proper accomodation and security facilities for students living outside the campus.

They would also propose to the government for setting up a model police station adjacent to the campus, and a police box at the level crossing.
