Upazila Press Club forms human chain to protest journalist Tuhin’s murder

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Ship Jewel Mymensingh : A human chain was formed at Chandana intersection in Gazipur city to protest the brutal murder of Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a journalist for the daily Pratidin Kagoj newspaper, and to demand exemplary punishment for the culprits.

The human chain was organized by the Upazila Press Club Trishal and various journalist organizations of Trishal on Sunday (August 10) afternoon at Trishal bus stand on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

Under the chairmanship of Upazila Press Club Trishal President Sarwar Jahan Jewel and moderated by News 21 Television staff reporter Nazmul Hasan Jibon, the following spoke: Shamim Azad Anwar, former president of Trishal Press Club and editor of the weekly Trishal Barta, Anwar Sadat Jahangir, editor and publisher of Rangdhanu TV, ATM Moniruzzaman, former president of Trishal Press Club and NPS Trishal Upazila branch president, Kamal Hossain, president of Trishal Reporters Club, former general secretary Sadiqur Rahman Kiran Akand, president of Trishal Online Press Club Enamul Haque, general secretary Harun Or Rashid Farazi, chairman of Jagrata TV Sohel Rana, president of Mymensingh Journalists Association Arifur Rahman Rabbani, former president of Kazi Nazrul Islam Journalists Association Sharif Saber Monir, joint general secretary of Maitree Press Club Suruj Zaman, and news editor of IBM TV Jannatul. Farooqui, BMF TV’s district correspondent Rabiul Islam, among others. Anam Tarek Hasan Babu Sarkar, general secretary of Upazila Press Club Trishal, expressed his gratitude. In addition, journalists of Upazila Press Club Trishal, journalists of various journalist organizations of Trishal, and the public were present at the human chain.

The human chain program demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the murder of journalist Tuhin, as well as an end to false cases and torture against journalists.

The speakers said that journalists are the fourth pillar of the state. But today there is no security for journalists. Whenever journalists publish news against extortionists and corrupt people, they are subjected to attacks, lawsuits, threats and murder. The brutal murder of Asaduzzaman Tuhin at Chandana intersection in Gazipur last Thursday is not new. Earlier, another journalist named Anwar Hossain was beaten to death by a terrorist group in front of the police. We strongly condemn and protest against this. The journalists also questioned the role of the administration in the attacks, lawsuits, threats and murders against journalists across the country.

In his speech, journalists from all over the country warned of a massive movement if all the accused involved in the murder of Tuhin, as well as the attacks and murders of journalists Sagar and Runi, are not arrested and given exemplary punishment.
