C T Online Desk: As per the announcement, the election schedule will be published in December if the situation remains congenial.
The schedule for the 13th parliamentary election will be announced two months before the vote, which is likely to take place in the first half of February next year, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasir Uddin said on Wednesday.
“We expect that we will receive a letter from the chief adviser in this regard soon,” the CEC said while addressing a press conference held at his commission office in Agargaon area of Dhaka this noon.
According to the announcement, the election schedule will be published in December if the situation remains favourable.
Earlier on Tuesday while addressing the nation, Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus said that he would write to the Election Commission (EC) to take all-out preparations to hold the upcoming national election in the first half of February next year.
In response to the issue, the CEC said, “There are various challenges in holding the election in February, but we are already prepared and have achieved some progress. I hope all our electoral preparation will be completed by September.”
Claiming that the commission wants to hold an election like crystal clear, Nasir said the mass media have a significant role in holding the upcoming national election in a free, fair and inclusive manner.
He said the commission will hold a meeting with the National Consensus Commission and then the country’s political parties to devise the next course plan to make the government’s mission successful.
