
C T Online Desk: The 31st death anniversary of veteran politician, social worker, and education enthusiast Nurul Absar Chowdhury was observed with due respect on Saturday, July 27.
The daylong commemorative events were organized by his family, well-wishers, and the N.A.C Memorial Foundation.

The day began with prayers and tributes at the late leader’s shrine in Shilaigara, his ancestral village in Anwara upazila of Chattogram.
Attendees offered floral wreaths, participated in Quran recitations, and joined a special prayer (Doa Mahfil).
Later in the day, a Milad Mahfil and a discussion meeting, were held at the N.A.C Memorial Foundation’s headquarters in Agrabad after Zuhr prayers and at his Chandanpura residence after Asr.
During the discussion, speakers paid deep respect to Nurul Absar Chowdhury’s illustrious political and social contributions. They highlighted his role as General Secretary of the Chattogram district branch of the Student Federation during Pakistan’s rule. He played a vital role in the movement against the 1962 Education Commission Report, the 1964 universal suffrage movement, and the 1969 mass uprising.
He also actively supported the Liberation War of 1971 by standing beside freedom fighters with courage and conviction.
Nurul Absar Chowdhury served as President of the Chattogram Metropolitan Democratic League, a political party led by prominent language movement leader Oli Ahad. He was also an advisor to the Chattogram City Corporation, Chairman of the Cosmopolitan City Implementation Council, and Director of the Islambad Town Cooperative Credit Society.
A devout contributor to social and religious causes, he was closely involved with many organizations including Anjuman Rahmaniya Ahmadia Sunnia, the Chattogram College Alumni Association, the Diabetic Association, and the Maa and Shishu Hospital, where he was a lifetime member.
Speakers at the event stated, “Nurul Absar Chowdhury’s life and legacy represent a proud chapter in Chattogram’s history. The time has come to honor him permanently by naming a road in Chattogram city after him.” They urged the Honorable Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, to consider the proposal.
