C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel, Mymensingh: The 8-kilometer-long paved road from Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway to Sakhua and Chakrampur via Ragamara Bazar, one of the main roads connecting the four unions of Trishal Upazila, has become a death trap. The condition of the road is so poor that it turns into a small canal during the rains. And in the dry season, due to dust and potholes, people who travel on the road get dust and sand on their bodies and their clothes get ruined.
Residents of more than fifty villages in Trishal Sadar, Sakhua, Rampur and Harirampur unions are facing endless hardships. Vehicles are moving on shaky roads due to poor roads. The occasional potholes created by the rains look like small canals. Businessmen, students and patients here face indescribable suffering. Thousands of buses, trucks and lorries ply on this road every day. In addition, the road has deteriorated rapidly due to the water from fish carts, the movement of multiple brick kiln trucks and heavy vehicles on the side of the road.
It has been seen on the ground – people from more than fifty villages of Trishal Sadar, Sakhua, Rampur and Harirampur unions of Trishal Upazila travel on this road. To go to the upazila sadar, district town or the capital, one has to travel through this road. To come to Trishal Sadar from Ragamara on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, one has to travel another 4 kilometers. After originating from the highway, there is no more pitch on the road. There is no pitch anywhere on the 8-kilometer road. It is difficult to travel due to potholes and broken roads. It has become unusable due to lack of repair for a long time. Although at least several thousand people travel on this road every day, the people traveling on that road are facing endless difficulties due to the lack of repair of the road. Various vehicles are getting into accidents while traveling on this road due to potholes. In addition, numerous vehicles are sometimes damaged by falling into large holes. Businessmen, patients and students are facing more difficulties. Pregnant women are also facing difficulties while traveling on this road. Local businessman Mahjahan Kabir said that one of the reasons for the deterioration of the road is the water from fish trucks. The excess water from the trucks has damaged the road in a short time. During the rains, it is difficult to understand how many holes there are because of the water accumulating on the road. Almost all cars are damaged if they fall into the holes. In addition, the road has deteriorated rapidly due to the presence of multiple brick kiln trucks and heavy vehicles plying along this road.
Asadul Islam said, every person who travels on this road is suffering. Due to the bad condition of the road, the fare of CNG and auto has doubled. Rickshaw driver Ali Hossain said, vehicles break down every day. Sometimes rickshaws, autos or CNG overturn. I demand that the road be repaired immediately.
In this regard, Upazila Engineer Shafiullah Khandaker said, “There is no allocation for the road this year. Allocation will be sought from the ministry for road renovation. Permanent measures will be taken to make the road suitable for traffic.”
