‘Scrap Women’s Affairs Reform Commission, its proposals or country to be paralysed’

C T Online Desk: Hefazat-e-Islam will announce a tougher programme if the government does not meet the demand by this timeframe.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has warned of paralysing the country if the government does not meet its demand for cancellation of the Women’s Reform Commission, its recommendation and imposition of a ban on Awami League.

“Hasina was forced to flee the country in the face of the movement and you (govt) have time until tomorrow to meet our demands. If no decision comes within the timeframe, we will paralyse the country by setting fire,” said Maulana Junaid Al Habib, senior vice president of the central committee of the religious-based organisation, on Friday.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh is a Deobandi Islamist advocacy group consisting mostly of religious teachers (Ulama) and students in Bangladesh, staged a demonstration in front of the national mosque in Dhaka after Jumma prayers.

The government must repeal the anti-Quran proposals of the Women’s Reform Commission and keep the faith and belief in Almighty Allah instead of pluralism contained in the preamble of the constitution, Habib said while addressing the demonstration.

All cases lodged against leaders and activists of the organisation over the past 15 years must be withdrawn and the people involved in Shapla Chattar mass killing in 2013 must be tried immediately, he said.

Apart from these, the religious organisation will hold a massive rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday to press home its demand for stopping the persecution of Muslims in Palestine and India, he said.

He called upon workers and followers of the organisation to start gathering at the meeting venue in the morning after offering Fajr prayers in a peaceful manner.

Taking part in the rally, Hefazat Nayeb-e-Ameer Mohiuddin Rabbani said they will announce a tougher programme from the public rally if the interim government does not meet their demand by this timeframe.
