C T Online Desk: Faruk-E-Azam, adviser for the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, has said the Mujibnagar Government is internationally recognized and holds constitutional status, mentioning that the interim government has no intention of changing its name.
Speaking to reporters at the Mujibnagar Memorial in Meherpur on Thursday, after placing a floral wreath on the occasion of Mujibnagar Day, the adviser said: “The Mujibnagar Government organized our Liberation War and built global diplomatic ties. The elected leadership of that time formed this government. April 17 is a glorious chapter in our nation’s history.”
He further stated: “There is no plan to change the name of the Mujibnagar Government. History cannot be erased. It must be preserved as it is. What future elected governments decide is their matter. We have many achievements, and we do not want to turn them into controversies. History should remain unaltered.”
On the issue of fake freedom fighters, the adviser added: “Real freedom fighters are often embarrassed because many falsely claim the title. This is a shameful matter. We have already taken several steps to address it, and some cases are awaiting court verdicts. Over 2,700 cases are pending, and we expect their resolution soon.”
Earlier in the day, at 5:43am, the national flag was hoisted with a guard of honour and the national anthem. Two Ansar members, who had presented the guard of honour to the national leaders on April 17, 1971, were also honoured.
Adviser Faruk-E-Azam placed wreaths at the memorial and later visited various parts of the Mujibnagar Memorial Complex and the Amrakanan mango grove.
