C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : There have been alleations of irregularities in the construction of the Porabari-Amlitala-Vaya Chikna road in Trishal, Mymensingh. The construction of the road using low-quality materials by managing the people of the Upazila Engineering Department has created extreme anger among the locals.
According to sources from the Upazila Engineer’s Office, 61 lakh 6 thousand taka has been allocated for the renovation of the Trishal-Porabari, Amlitala via Chikna (chainage 2900-3400 meters) road in Trishal Upazila.
The work is being carried out by a contractor named Nirob Enterprises of Fulbaria Upazila of Mymensingh. The work is scheduled to be completed by September this year.
After visiting the site and talking to locals, it was learned that contractors are working on various parts of the road using low-quality brick chips and sand. Even brick chips are being used in the construction of the base.
Despite such poor quality work on the road, the authorities concerned seem to be ignoring it. This has created extreme anger among the locals.
In this regard, a businessman from the same area, who did not want to be named, said that the contractor is doing the work in front of the people of the engineer’s office. The people of the office are pretending not to see it. From the beginning, the local people have objected to the low-quality work. But the contractor’s people are managing a few people in the area and carrying out the work. If the road is built like this, it will be destroyed in a short time.
When asked about this, Khairul Islam, who was managing the work on behalf of the contracting company, said, “We are working in front of the people of the Upazila Engineering Department. They did not say anything about this.”
Upazila Executive Engineer Md. Shafiullah said, “Many people have complained to me about the quality of work on this road. There is no scope for irregularities in the work. I am sending people to inspect the work, if the quality of the work is not up to standard, necessary action will be taken.”
