63 bottles of Indian liquor seized in Trishal

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel, Mymensingh : On April 9 (Tuesday) at approximately 2:35 am, based on a secret tip-off, a smart team of Eshal police station conducted a special operation by setting up a check post on the paved road adjacent to the Nigar Zaman filling station (petrol pump) on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
During the operation, a Dhaka-bound bus named ‘Ma Moni Enterprise’ (Reg. No.: Dhaka Metro B-13-1066) from Lengur under Kalmakanda police station in Netrokona district was stopped and searched. With the help of the bus driver, supervisor and helper, a total of 63 bottles of Indian liquor were recovered from three small burlap sacks cleverly hidden in the spare wheel compartment at the rear of the bus.
The liquor was seized in front of the witnesses present after being recovered by the bus driver, helper and supervisor and was later taken to the police station. The seized Indian liquor, the three accused and the bus were taken to the police station. The accused are 1. Driver: Md. Kajal Mia (age: 27), father: deceased Habibur Rahman, mother: Md. Kamrunnahar, village: Ramnagar (adjacent to Kumudganj Bazar), police station/upazila: Durgapur, district: Netrakona.
2. Helper: Yasin Arafat (age: 22), father: deceased Ziaur Rahman, mother: Peyara Akhter, village: Lakshmipur, police station/upazila: Durgapur, district: Netrokona.
3. Supervisor: Rifat Mia Babu (Age: 24), Father: Aiun Mia, Mother: Monowara Begum, Village: Shitipur (Ward No. 3, UP- Kakarkanda), Police Station/Upazila: Durgapur, District: Netrakona.

Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansur Ahmed said a case has been registered under Section 25-B(2) of the Special Powers Act of 1974. The matter is under investigation and further action will be taken as per the law, the concerned authorities said.
